The advice given by most content creator gurus and entrepreneurs is to do one thing. Niche down. But maybe it’s time to embrace your multi-passionate creative self.
Is Niching Down For Everyone?
What if you can’t niche down? What if you are, by nature, a person who has varied interests and an inner need to do more than one thing?
I’ve tried niching down to focus on just one thing, and I always end up miserable, yearning to add another project that I’m passionate about. Then I feel pressure to let go of one of those things because of the common advice–doing more than one thing at a time isn’t the best thing to do.
Or is it?
Radmila Lolly is an opera singer, composer, fashion designer and entrepreneur living the ultimate multi-passionate creative lifestyle.
Five Ways To Flourish As A Multi-Passionate Creative
In Forbes, Radmila Lolly shares four things that makes her multi-passionate lifestyle work:
- Let go of perfectionism. Instead of trying to achieve perfection, be driven by inspiration. Focus on what inspires and motivates you in the work you’re doing. Pay attention to what inspires you. Let your intuition be an inspiration.
- Don’t compare yourself with others. Focus on yourself. Creativity is an individual thing and the way you express it should come from you, not what everyone else is doing. The only one you want to compare yourself to is you.
- Allow your goals to evolve. It’s fine to set goals, but allow them to evolve as you evolve. Your goals can’t always be set in stone because you are a growing evolving being, therefore your goals will need to do the same. And, some goals you set in the past you may have to let go of altogether, because you’ve outgrown the goal.
- Keep creating. The more you create the more you find your voice and style. And don’t share what you create with those who aren’t supportive. Don’t allow yourself to be stopped by anyone who doesn’t support your dream.
Embracing Yourself As A Multi-Passionate Creative Is Liberating
The truth is, we’re not all designed to do things the same way. A formula doesn’t always work for everyone.
Niching down might work for most, but if you’re someone who has an inner need to work on more than one of your passions at a time, trying to niche down may have the opposite effect. It may leave you feeling frustrated, unfulfilled, and unsuccessful.
Perhaps it’s time to embrace your multi-passionate creative self and allow yourself to work on multiple projects without the shame of feeling like you’re doing it the wrong way.
Embracing your multi-passionate creative personality can be liberating.
I can’t just write about one topic. Nor is writing my only passion.
I’m embracing all the things. And I’ve never felt freer and more like myself.
