Candace Owens Sued By the Macrons–Why You Need to Watch Her Docuseries Before Forming An Opinion

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife, Brigitte, have filed a 22-count defamation lawsuit against Candace Owens. Yes, the actual president of France and his wife are suing an American podcaster. Why? Because she publicly states that she believes Brigitte Macron is biologically a male.

Candace Owens is a controversial podcaster.  She was trashed when she modeled White Lives Matter shirts with Kanye in 2022 at a Paris fashion show.  The Daily Wire fired her because she spoke out against Israel. (Although The Daily Wire doesn’t say that’s why she was fired.)  She’s a conservative Christian, recently converted to Catholicism, and an admitted conspiracy theorist.  She has 4.5 million followers on YouTube and over 6 million on X.

Speaking of YouTube, I watched a couple of videos reacting to this lawsuit. Aside from the video itself, the comment section is the best place to tell you what everyday people are thinking. As with everything else these days, opinions about the Macron Owens case are pretty much divided along party lines.

Some are defending Candace because she’s a conservative. Others are attacking her because they can’t stand her or anything she stands for because she’s conservative. And then there are some conservatives and/or Christians who used to like her but no longer because she speaks out against Israel.

Why Is Candace Calling Brigitte A Man?

Candace didn’t wake up one day and fabricate a story about Brigitte Macron’s gender. Her claims are based on information already reported by French journalists.  French writer and investigative journalist Xavier Poussard spoke out about it and later wrote a book called Becoming Brigitte, in which he explores and exposes Brigitte’s alleged male identity.  Candace’s multi-video docuseries, also titled Becoming Brigitte, reports on Xavier’s findings. Additionally, she collaborated with him in publishing his book.

Two French women, Natacha Rey and Amandine Roy, also publicly spoke out about Brigitte’s biological gender. They were sued by the Macrons and convicted in France for defamation.  Courts recently overturned their convictions.

In order to make a sound opinion about the Macron Owens lawsuit, watching Candace’s docuseries on Brigitte Macron or at least part of it is a must. Otherwise, you’re left with taking sides simply because of your political party or what you’ve heard other people say. Like I tell my 17-year-old son, always do your research before settling on an opinion. And research isn’t simply choosing a side because of party lines.

Candace’s Bigger Focus is Pedophilia

Candace’s focus isn’t simply on Brigitte Macron’s gender.  She believes that exposing Brigitte’s true biological identity also exposes her and her husband’s ties to pedophilia…not only between them but with others.

Emmanuel Macron met Brigitte when he was a 14-year-old student and she was his 39-year-old teacher.  In her docuseries, Candace connects their relationship with how other elites want to normalize sexual relationships between adults and minors, and ties other pedophilic elites to the couple.

I’m a Christian, but I don’t agree with a lot of what Candace says just because she says she’s Christian. And then there are some things I do agree with. But one thing I give her is that she does excellent investigative work.  Then it’s up to me to decide whether or not I believe it.

I was blown away by her Kamala Harris series. And unlike the Brigitte Macron issue, she didn’t have other journalists’ work to lean on. It was basically just her and her small team, two people, I believe, diving in and doing the research.

Candace Owens’ Response to the Macron Lawsuit

Candace believes the lawsuit is a PR strategy.  Most people criticizing Candace about the Brigitte matter haven’t watched her docuseries and are unaware of the French journalists she got her information from. And the Macrons are counting on that because suing Candace makes it appear as though they’re defending Brigitte against false claims. Much of the photo evidence Brigitte provided to prove she was born a female has been debunked or as the Macrons might see it…misconstrued to fit a narrative.

After being hit with the lawsuit, Candace is more defiant than ever. On her podcast, responding to the lawsuit she says, “You are officially a very goofy man, Brigitte. But I got to give it to you…you’ve definitely got balls.” And she adds, “…you were born a man and you’ll die a man!”

If this lawsuit goes to trial, and even if Brigitte were born a male, Candace’s attitude could work against her.

Owens has dissected their appearance, their marriage, their friends, their family, and their personal history—twisting it all into a grotesque narrative designed to inflame and degrade. The result is relentless bullying on a worldwide scale.

Macron v. Owens Lawsuit (excerpt, #6 of the Complaint)

Sure, jurors are supposed to decide cases based on evidence, but they’re human, and emotion plays a big role. All Macron’s attorneys have to do is show the jury one of Candace’s videos where she made fun of Brigitte’s looks and her wig (yes, Candace has done that) or where she’s poking fun at her “being a dude”…yeah, jurors could easily view that as bullying, and some of them won’t like it.

I read parts of the lawsuit. And honestly if I hadn’t watched Candace’s docuseries, I’d probably side with the Macrons. The lawsuit does a great job of making Candace look like she’s a bully and just out for money and recognition. But I did see the docuseries, so I’m able to see the bigger picture.

Defamation Cases Are Harder For Public Figures

It’s said that defamation cases are hard to win for public figures. I asked ChatGpt to explain, and here’s how I understand it. Private U.S. citizens only have to prove negligence, meaning they didn’t take extra care to verify the truth of what they said. However, public figures such as the Macrons must prove that Candace knowingly lied or showed reckless disregard for the truth. Basically, they have to prove malice. And then there’s also the matter of free speech and whether or not public figures are up for scrutiny.

It’ll be interesting to follow this case because I don’t know how the Macrons will prove malice. After all, Candace’s docuseries shows that she believes the information she’s sharing. She believes she’s exposing the Macron’s lies.

Unless they can show that Candace Owens knew Brigitte Macron was born a female but chose to lie about it, how can they win? And even if it turns out Brigitte is a born female, that doesn’t prove malice because they still have to prove that Candace knowingly lied and disregarded the truth.

Again, I think that more than Brigitte’s gender, this case will come down to whether Candace’s behavior is judged as bullying rather than a fair scrutiny of the Macrons as public figures.

Watch the Becoming Brigitte Docuseries

You can love Candace or despise her. You can find her brash, controversial or simply annoying. But if you want a fuller understanding of what’s going on with this case, you have to watch the docuseries. That’s where she lays out the evidence she says informed her statements. Even if you just watch the first episode, it’s enough to make you raise your eyebrows and say, “Hmm.”
