When I read that Aaron Taylor-Johnson could be the next James Bond, I looked him up right away.
Really?!
When Barbara Broccoli said they were reinventing James Bond, I didn’t expect to see Daniel Craig’s younger prettier looking twin. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is your typical looking hunk…looks a little McConaughey-ish.
I don’t see him as a reinvention of James Bond.
Of course my idea of a reinvention of James Bond is Tom Hughes. Tom is dashingly good-looking, not average looking nor is he a hunk. There’s a difference between a hunk and a good-looking man. But back to Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Actually, the Bond franchise hasn’t announced that Aaron is the new Bond. But the article I read made it sound like he’d just signed the contract and the announcement was soon to come.
Who Is Aaron Taylor-Johnson?
I never heard of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but my son told me he was Quicksilver in a Marvel movie. He’s actually done a lot more than that. His most recent movie was Bullet Train with Brad Pitt in 2022. He has a movie coming out this year called Kraven the Hunter and another coming out in 2024 called The Fall Guy.
He’s pretty busy, but even with all that work and his hunky good looks, the thing I found most interesting about Aaron Taylor-Johnson is that he started dating his wife when he was just 18 and she was 42. I like that a man can be free enough to date an older woman. Although eighteen is super young. They met on the set of Nowhere Boy, where Aaron played John Lennon, and his now wife, Sam, was the movie’s director.
Aaron’s Fans Are Brutal
I only know about he and his wife’s age difference because I watched an interview he did, and I read the comments. The interview had nothing to do with his marriage but that’s all the commenters talked about. And they were brutal. Ninety-nine percent (really 99.9%) of them believe Aaron’s wife groomed him and were hoping he and his wife would divorce. His fans see his wife as an evil groomer and him as a victim.
That interview was a few years ago, but even just recently Aaron’s fans are happy about a rumor that he cheated with his Bullet Train co-star, Joey King. (Again…it’s only a rumor.) They’re clinging to the idea that Aaron is a victim of his wife even though he’s now a thirty-two-year-old man, they have two children and seem to be happily married for over ten years.
If Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be the next James Bond, dealing with fans who see him as a teen who his wife groomed might be his and the Bond franchise’s biggest hurdle. That’s the last thing you want people to be thinking about for the new James Bond.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson As James Bond
For true Bond fans, though, it’s unlikely that Aaron’s marriage would be an issue. Their primary focus would be whether or not he’s good at playing James Bond. One thing that might quiet his other fans…let James Bond have a relationship with an older woman. Ha!
Will Aaron Taylor-Johnson be the next James Bond? I hope not. And it has absolutely nothing to do with his wife. If the Bond franchise is truly reinventing Bond, let it be a real reinvention. And Aaron Taylor-Johnson isn’t it. Sorry, Aaron.
It’s evident he’s a great actor based on all the roles he’s played. But for Bond, he doesn’t fit, unless the Bond franchise is looking for a Marvel superhero. Too, Bond is a seasoned agent and should look somewhat seasoned. I haven’t seen the movie, but in the Bullet Train trailer, Aaron’s thick mustache looks out of place on his baby face. (Tom Hughes looks great in a mustache, by the way.)
Aaron Taylor-Johnson The Next James Bond?
The reinvented James Bond needs to bring some depth to the role. He doesn’t need to have bulging muscles or do his own stunts (that’s what stuntmen are for). He doesn’t need to be a Marvel-looking superhero. It’s time for Bond to be a real man with human emotions, has psychological depth and looks like Tom Hughes. And of course, respects women.
It’s probably true that Aaron Taylor-Johnson did a screen test for the role and met with Barbara Broccoli and did great, but until the Bond Franchise makes an official announcement, it means nothing.
Aaron was asked about the rumor about him being the next James Bond and he didn’t say much, not wanting to give anything away. Among a few other words, he said, “It’s flattering.”
